Who we are
The Friends of Nuttall Park are a group of volunteers who help to keep the park tidy and through raising funds improve the park by adding playground equipment and plants.

Friends of Nuttall Park volunteers get involved in many ways
The Gardening Group meets on Tuesday afternoons 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. March to November to tend for flowerbeds and the wildflower patch, as well as general tidying of the park.
The Tea Room is open most weekends, and provides an income for the group.
The toilets are opened when the base is open, and at other times when volunteers are available.
Task Days are held throughout the year, when a number of volunteers meet to clear balsam, paint and clean the furniture in the park, tidy leaves, e.t.c.
Events such as the Lantern Parade and Easter Fun Hunt are held to provide a community day out. Extra volunteers are required for these events.
Some of the volunteers help with most of the activities, and some only want to be involved with one activity.
We welcome extra volunteers who are prepared to help with any of the above activities. Please contact us if you can spare some time to improve the park
Hiring the Base
The Friends of Nuttall Park took over the management of the Nuttall Park Base in the centre of the park at the end of 2013. It is available for hire and is suitable for parties, meetings, craft activities, cafe, e.t.c. There is a small kitchen for serving tea, coffee and cold refreshments. Booking enquiries should be made by email to email@example.com initially to provisionally reserve your chosen date and time, or use the contact page. The bookings page also shows current bookings
After we have confirmed the date is available, we will send an application form and the term and conditions (which are basically to clean and tidy up after use and remove all waste). The application form should be returned within 7 days to secure the booking. Payment can be made electronically or on the day. The current fees for private parties are £20 for 1 hour, £30 for 2 hours and £40 for 3 hours. Fees for longer hours will be advised at the time of booking. There are discounts for regular bookings and use of the base for community groups
Please note that bookings are for the base and public use of the park only and do not cover any other exclusive use of the park, such as organised activities, erecting gazebos or bouncy castles. These should be requested via the Parks and Countryside Service at Bury Metro or 0161 253 5899
How we raise and spend money
We have 3 sources of income
1) Hiring the base for community groups and private parties and companies
Regular users of the base are Kids Rock, Bugs and Bees and Qfirst Sports
2) Running a tea room on weekends
3) Holding special events such as Spring Trail, Plant Sales, Love Parks Week, Lantern Parade and Seasonal Weekend
In 2017 we raised over £10,000 from these 3 income streams and after expenses, we have £8,000 to spend in 2018 on park improvements. We welcome your suggestions.
In 2015, we added the zip wire and infant trim trail in the playground, the defibrillator case, plants for the wildflower garden and flower beds , and made the boules court
In 2016, we put a fence around the wildflower garden. This was partly funded by the Township Forum. We also added an accessible swing, replaced the boules court, which was damaged in the boxing day floods, and improved the toilets. We also worked with Bury Council to replace the bins to include lids to deter magpies and squirrels
In 2017, we expanded the perimeter path to be 1.8m wide.
